Alpha Gamma Delta was officially founded on May 30, 1904 at the home of Dr. Wellesley Perry Coddington, a professor at Syracuse University who was instrumental in the early development of Alpha Gamma Delta. Each of the Fraternity's 11 founders were progressive women who selflessly contributed to the foundation and growth of Alpha Gamma Delta. Since the founding, collegiate chapters have been installed at 188 colleges and universities across North America and more than 160,000 women have become Alpha Gam sisters. Guided by our Purpose, Alpha Gamma Deltas are impacting our communities and contributing to the world's work. The Zeta Kappa Chapter at Pitt-Johnstown was established in 1982. AGD sponsors the annual Mr. Pitt-Johnstown Pageant, with proceeds benefiting diabetes research, their national philanthropic focus. Since the Zeta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta was chartered at the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown in 1982, we strive to uphold the ideals of the Fraternity we represent and love, including scholarship, leadership, service and of course, sisterhood. We are women of value and women of character. We are friends, leaders, students, but most of all we are sisters, and there is nothing stronger than that bond. We have over 40 active members right now and we keep growing. In fact, we just welcomed a new member class of 7! We pride ourselves in being a close-knit group of women with lasting relationships. The friendships are cultivated through time spent in sisterhood activities and retreats, philanthropy, social gatherings, and chapter meetings. Alpha Gamma Delta at the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown has a beautiful house located on-campus at Hawthorne 4. A typical Alpha Gam will live in the house with members from her pledge class and other sisters for 2 semesters or more! Each Alpha Gamma Delta member has her own individual interests, pursuits and dreams. Joining a sorority is making the choice to share and experience these things together. Our chapter prides itself in the variety of involvement our women have on campus. Each member brings something special to the chapter from the moment she accepts her bid to long after graduation day is over.
Zeta Kappa Chapter is well known on campus and we are involved in so many different ways in the organizations at UPJ. Our chapter is made up of club presidents, honors students, and athletes. Below are just a few other things that our women are involved in across our campus and beyond.
