Pitt-Johnstown’s Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity will hold a sports memorabilia auction Friday, with proceeds to support breast cancer programs through Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
The silent auction will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Mountain Cat Club in the top floor of the UPJ Student Union on the Richland Township campus.
Auction items will include two footballs and and a pair of Terrible Towels signed by Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Fame linebacker Jack Lambert.
“The idea behind a sports memorabilia auction just came into my head one night,” said Matt Ziance, president of the fraternity.
“The next morning over Christmas break, I started to make phone calls and send out as many e-mails as I possibly could to start collecting donated items from athletes in the sports world.”
Other items on the list:
“We also have various items currently in the mail from Sports Soup and Clean House host Matt Iseman, along with various items from the Pitt women’s basketball team,” Ziance said.
“Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity as a whole has worked very hard to raise money for Susan G Komen,” said Christian Woo, the fraternity’s public relations and communications chairman.
“You literally can’t go one day without seeing someone walking around campus wearing a “Don’t Let Cancer Steal Second Base” T-shirt or a breast cancer wristband.
“It is nice to see that all the work that we have put in over the past year and a half is really starting to show.”
Ziance said the auction proceeds will be split evenly between the Komen foundation and the fraternity.

- Three signed baseballs from Texas Rangers draft pick Brett Weibley of Hollidaysburg.
- A baseball signed by the University of Virginia college team.
- A basketball signed by the members of the Pitt men’s basketball team and coaches.
- A pair of breast cancer awareness gloves signed by Arizona Cardinals player and Johnstown native LaRod Stephens-Howling.
- A signed book from PGA player Rocco Mediate.
- A hat signed by Mediate.
- Team shirt signed by members of the Johnstown Generals indoor pro football team.
- Singlet signed by UPJ NCAA wrestling champion and Forest Hills High School graduate Shane Valko.
